Come and discover Fort de Leffrinckoucke on a school trip or in an activity center. Large groups are welcome! The Fort is located just 20 minutes from Dunkirk. Full details below.

Bringing history and heritage to life at Fort des Dunes

Educational visits for schools (only in French)

Come and have fun discovering the Fort des Dunes and its history. The Fort offers a range of workshops and tours for schoolchildren from CM1 to Terminale.

For primary schools (CM1-CM2)

  • Treasure hunt: fun guided tour during which students will discover the Fort through a series of puzzles. Average duration: 1h15
  • Classic guided tour: discover the history and architecture of the Fort with one of our guides. Average duration: 1h15
  • Self-guided visit: visit the exhibitions and the external circuit independently. We can provide you with a turnkey questionnaire. Average duration: 1h30
  • Visit of your choice + educational workshop “Living under occupation”: after a visit to the Fort, students will discover in the classroom the life of civilians and schoolchildren during the Second World War. They will finish the workshop with a discovery of writing with a penholder. Average time: 2 hours

For middle schools

  • Classic guided tour: discover the history and architecture of the Fort with one of our guides. Average duration: 1h15
  • Self-guided visit: visit the exhibitions and the external circuit independently. We can provide you with a turnkey questionnaire. Average duration: 1h30
  • Visit of your choice + workshop “Dunkirk in times of war”: after a visit the students will discover the fate of the city of Jean Bart during the Second World War, from Operation Dynamo to the liberation. The workshop ends with the creation of a newspaper front page recounting events in Dunkirk between 1940 and 1945. Average time: 2 hours

For high schools

  • Classic guided tour: discover the history and architecture of the Fort with one of our guides. Average duration: 1h15
  • Self-guided visit: visit the exhibitions and the external circuit independently. We can provide you with a turnkey questionnaire. Average duration: 1h30
  • Visit of your choice + “True from Fake” workshop: after a visit, students will discover the importance of propaganda during the Second World War and today’s fake news which often uses the same codes. The workshop ends with the creation of a poster promoting peace. Average time: 2 hours

Discover and enjoy Fort des Dunes

Activities for leisure centers (only in French)

Le Fort organizes fun and original activities for leisure centers. Different activities are offered for different vacation periods (a different program will be offered in summer and for All Saints’ Day).

Entertainment for the 2024 summer holidays

For ages 3-7

  • Eye of a lynx: locate all the hidden objects and places in the Fort to obtain a great reward. Average duration: 45 minutes
  • Soldier from head to toe: recreate General Vandenfort’s uniform then create your own soldier’s helmet. Average duration: 1 hour

For ages 8-12

  • Treasure hunt: solve all the puzzles in the Fort to find the famous treasure! 2 levels of difficulty: 7-9 years and 9-12 years. Average duration: 1 hour
  • Who will be the strongest ? : 2 units compete in a series of sporting events (Special Olympic Games 2024). Average duration: 1h30
